about

School children from St Antony’s Catholic Primary School in Newham recorded a song and music video with Hollywood director, Saloum N’jie, in order to get key workers a real Living Wage.

The music video for Another Round of Applause was premiered today (Monday, November 9) at the beginning of Living Wage Week, organised by the Living Wage Foundation in front of the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.

The song was made to raise awareness of the incredible efforts of key workers throughout the Covid-19 pandemic to keep the country running. The school children hope to get key workers in the Covid-19 crisis a real Living Wage.

lyrics

(Let’s build back better)
For a standard in the system
where the wages are fairer
(Let’s build back better)
For the workers on the frontline
Struggling to get by
(Let’s build back better)
For the future generations
No more hesitations
(Let’s build back better) …yeah!
(Let’s build back) build back BETTER!

This pandemic has revealed the nation’s brave
those who risk their lives every day
overlooked severely underpaid
frontline at work - inadequate pay
millions of workers need a better wage
tell me how much longer must we wait
for an end to the slavery - good day
good bye to poverty pay

Dedicated
To the cause
Everyday heroes
Another round of applause
For our key workers
God bless them all
It’s time to pay them what their worth is
What are we waiting for?

Can’t you see - are you blinded to the facts
some can barely feed their family after rent bills and tax
how cheap can we bargain for their dignity?
when we treat key workers like commodities
see you’ve got to have a beating heart to do this job
those hearts work hard, it’s a daily slog
hard times - long shifts - late nights - hard thrifts -
they’re our everyday heroes - never forget this
never forget this – NEVER FORGET THIS!!

One day we will look back
and reminisce of the year 2020
where Covid-19 exposed the inequalities
deep seated in our society
Even deadlier than this invisible virus
is disease of low income; a national crisis
Where 1 in 5 workers are paid
less than a real living wage
See the laws and the system, they’re designed and built broken
if it’s not in the budget - how can business still open?
our nurses and carers can’t live on thanks
for all they give - yet they line the food banks
Where’s the honour? Where’s the dignity?
Where’s the respect for our heroes?
‘cause mum can’t feed the family
on claps and rainbows
* GIVE IT UP *

(This is for the)
Nurses, carers, cleaners, porters
Retail staff, shelf stackers, pharmacists
& postal workers- teaching assistants,
transport staff, delivery drivers
security, fire fighters, garbage collectors
and every key worker - essential!

Dedicated
To the cause
Everyday heroes
Another round of applause
For our key workers
God bless them all
It’s time to pay them what their worth is
What are we waiting for?
